It's that time of year when our reading lists get a little longer. The National Book Awards were announced this week! If you didn't have your Google alerts set to see which of the finalists would enter the winners' circle, don't sweat it. We've pulled together the volumes that took home the gold. From poetry and fiction to young people's literature, these are the releases that came out on top in 2015. Obviously, they are all pretty brilliant.

Between the World and Meby Ta-Nehisi Coates
The esteemed writer took home the nonfiction award for this groundbreaking narrative that explores the history of racism and privilege in America.
Challenger Deep by Neal Shusterman
Shusterman won for young people's literature with this incredible book about one teen's experience with mental illness. Despite being aimed at a young crowd, this book is for anyone who has ever slipped into sadness — watch the book trailer to understand why.
Voyage of the Sable Venus by Robin Coste Lewis
Released in September of this year, this book — Cost Lewis's first — took home the poetry award. The collection of poems centers on the Black female experience through time.
Don DeLillo
The White Noise author took home the National Book Award's honor for lifetime achievement: the Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters.
James Patterson
The Alex Cross writer took home the Literarian Award for Outstanding Service to American Literary Community. Congrats to all!
